Leo Season: Step Into the Light

This is your invitation to be seen and shine boldly!
Welcome to Leo Season (July 22 - August 22). At its core, Leo energy is courageous, loyal, magnetic, expressive, warm-hearted, generous, charismatic, playful, and radiant, with just enough theatrical flair to keep life interesting.
One of the things I love most about working with astrological seasons is that they give us a way to sync our inner world with the natural cycles around us. The cycles above reflect the cycles within, and when we pay attention to what the sky is doing, we start to feel a personal connection with something much bigger than our daily to-do list.
Every one of us has all twelve signs somewhere in our birth chart, which means Leo energy isn't just for people born under this sign. It lives somewhere in your chart too, touching a specific area of your life. When the Sun moves through Leo each year, it activates that part of your chart and illuminates whatever Leo rules for you personally, whether that's your relationships, your creative work, your career, your home, or something else entirely.
So this season belongs to all of us. The invitation is simply to ask: where am I being called to shine more brightly?

A Little History and Myth
Leo is one of the oldest recognized constellations in recorded history. Ancient civilizations across Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome all saw the lion in the sky and assigned it a similar meaning: royalty, power, and the life-giving force of the sun.
In ancient Egypt, Leo Season coincided with the flooding of the Nile. This was the event that made the entire agricultural cycle possible. The Egyptians honored Leo Season with images of lions at the heads of their water fountains, which is actually where the tradition of lion-headed fountains comes from. The lion wasn't just a symbol of strength. It was a symbol of life itself.
In Greek mythology, Leo is associated with the Nemean Lion. Hercules was tasked with defeating the Nemean Lion with his bare hands as the first of his twelve impossible feats. The lion was an enormous, fearsome creature whose golden fur couldn't be pierced by any weapon. Hercules defeated the lion and then wore the lion's pelt as a symbol of his courage and invincibility. Zeus then honored the lion by placing it among the stars.
In both traditions, the lion’s power was something to be claimed, integrated, and honored. Something we can still do today by connecting to the Lion’s energy of Leo.
Understanding Leo Energy
Leo is a Fixed Fire sign, ruled by the Sun. Let's look at what each of those pieces means:
Fixed means it holds steady and commits fully. Leo doesn't dabble. When it decides to do something, it goes all in. That's where its legendary loyalty comes from, and also its stubborn streak.
Fire means it's energized, expressive, and oriented toward action and passion. Fire signs move from the inside out. They feel something and they express it. They don't sit on their gifts.
Sun-ruled means Leo is the only sign ruled by the Sun. Leo's whole nature is to radiate, to illuminate, and to bring warmth to everything around it.
When these elements are combined, you get energy that's bold, radiant, generous, dramatic, and magnetic. Leo doesn't shine to show off. It shines because that's simply its nature.
Why This Leo Season Is Different
Leo Season 2026: this isn't a typical year. Three rare things are happening at once, and together they make this one of the most significant Leo Seasons in a decade.
Jupiter entered Leo on June 30th for the first time since 2014-2015. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, abundance, and opportunity, and when it moves into a sign it turns up the volume on everything that sign represents. Confidence, creativity, visibility, leadership, joy. All of it is getting a major boost this year.
Mercury stations direct on July 23rd, just one day after the season begins. That means we move into Leo Season with clear skies for communication, contracts, and forward momentum almost immediately. No Mercury retrograde fog hanging over the opening weeks.
A total solar eclipse lands on August 12th at roughly 20 degrees Leo, with Mercury and Jupiter also in Leo. Eclipses are accelerators. They close chapters and open doors you didn't even know existed. A total solar eclipse in Leo, hugged by Jupiter, is the kind of energy that astrologers circle years in advance. If you've been waiting for a sign to be seen, to create, to step forward, this is it.
How to Work With Leo Energy This Season
You don't have to do anything complicated. Here are some simple, practical ways to align with the energy of this season:
Light a candle before you start working for the day. Leo is a fire sign, and having a flame nearby is a simple way to connect with that energy. As someone with a lot of water and air sign energy in my chart, I’ve found this especially helpful to do year round.
Sit in the sun intentionally. Even ten minutes outside with your face turned toward the light in the morning can be beneficial.
Share your message. Whatever you've been holding back, a creative project, an opinion, an offer, a story, Leo Season is the time to put it out there.
Wear something that makes you feel radiant: color, jewelry, or just something a little bolder than usual.
Practice receiving compliments without deflecting them. Just say thank you. That's a Leo skill worth building.

Art & Journal Prompts for Leo Season
Write and then paint. Journal about what your most confident self looks like and how she moves through the world. Then paint or draw her using only warm colors — gold, amber, orange, red. Let it be bold and don't overthink it.
Create a Leo Season altar. Gather candles, crystals, sunflowers, or anything golden and arrange them somewhere you'll see every day. Let it be a visual reminder of what you're stepping into this season.
Write a letter to your most confident self and let her write back. What does she want you to know right now? What has she been waiting for you to claim?
Create a collage for this season. Pull images that feel bold, alive, and expressive. What does your most radiant and beautiful life look like? Let the images surprise you.
Leo Season Mantras
Come back to these whenever you need a little solar boost:
I am allowed to take up space.
My light doesn't diminish anyone else's.
I create from joy, not from fear.
Being seen is safe.
I shine because it's my nature.
A Closing Thought
Leo Season always reminds me that shining isn't selfish. In fact, holding back your light doesn't protect anyone. It just leaves the room a little darker. This year, with Jupiter expanding everything Leo touches and a total solar eclipse opening doors you didn't even know existed, the invitation is louder than usual.
Step forward. Create something. Share your message. Let yourself be seen.
The world needs what you're here to bring. And Leo Season is giving you every possible reason to stop waiting and start.
Until next time,
Monica
